Role

You will lead a team of engineers to improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of our backend systems — from compute and networking to data storage, observability, and developer experience. The work is deeply technical and foundational to the company’s future. Our systems need to support rapid iteration for engineers while maintaining rock-solid reliability for enterprise customers operating at massive scale.

You’ll shape how we deploy, scale, and observe everything we run, ensuring our infrastructure is reliable, flexible, and cost-effective. Your team will make it easy for every developer at Cursor to ship fast and safely, while laying the groundwork for the next generation of AI-driven engineering.

Sample projects could include…

  • Building a multi-region, multi-cloud compute platform using Kubernetes and ECS to power global workloads.

  • Simplifying and consolidating Terraform and deployment systems to improve reliability and reduce complexity.

  • Designing staged rollout and rollback pipelines for safer production releases.

  • Improving observability across metrics, logging, and alerting to enable better reliability reviews and incident response.

  • Driving cost optimization efforts across compute, storage, and monitoring systems.

  • Partnering with product teams to make backend feature development faster and safer.

You might be a fit if you…

  • Have led engineering teams building and operating reliable, large-scale infrastructure or platform systems.

  • Have deep experience with AWS, Azure, Terraform, and Kubernetes, and enjoy building elegant, scalable systems.

  • Have strong opinions on databases, caching, and schema design, and understand the tradeoffs between performance and consistency.

  • Care deeply about reliability, performance, and developer velocity, and know how to balance them effectively.

  • Enjoy solving impactful systems problems and building tooling that accelerates the entire engineering organization.

About

We're Anysphere, the team behind Cursor.

Our mission is to automate coding. The first step in our journey is to build the best tool for professional programmers, using a combination of inventive research, design, and engineering.

We're a group of engineers and scientists who've built beloved products, created large OSS projects, started at-scale businesses, won olympiad medals, and published significant research (e.g. tmm1, ian, luke, phil, federico, aman, sualeh).

Our organization is very flat, and our team is small and talent dense. We particularly like people who are truthseeking, passionate, and creative. We enjoy spirited debate, crazy ideas, and shipping code.

We're in-person with cozy offices in North Beach, San Francisco and Manhattan, New York, replete with well-stocked libraries. Our investors include Andreessen Horowitz, OpenAI, Jeff Dean, John Schulman, and the founders of Stripe and Github.

Applying

If there appears to be a fit, we'll reach to schedule 2-3 interviews. After, we'll schedule an onsite in our office, where you'll work on a small project, discuss ideas, and meet the team.
