Our mission is to automate coding. The first step in our journey is to build the best tool for professional programmers, using a combination of inventive research, design, and engineering. Our organization is very flat, and our team is small and talent dense. We particularly like people who are truth-seeking, passionate, and creative. We enjoy spirited debate, crazy ideas, and shipping code.

About the role

We’re hiring a Field CTO to engage with senior technical leaders at the world’s most sophisticated companies. This is a highly strategic, individual contributor role focused on shaping how enterprises adopt AI in software development.

As a Field CTO, you’ll operate as a peer to CTOs, VP Engineering, and platform leaders — helping them navigate the evolving AI landscape, evaluate Cursor at a systems level, and design adoption strategies across large organizations. You’ll partner closely with Sales, Field Engineering, and Product, acting as a force multiplier on our most important deals.

This role is high-context and externally facing: you’ll be involved in many conversations, often early, helping frame problems and guide technical direction rather than going deep on implementation.

What you’ll do

  • Engage CTOs and senior engineering leaders as a trusted technical peer in strategic sales cycles

  • Lead high-level technical and architectural conversations around AI adoption in large enterprises

  • Frame and communicate the maturity curve of AI in software development, tailoring narratives to different customer contexts

  • Partner with Field Engineers to guide solution direction without owning hands-on implementation

  • Influence executive stakeholders by connecting technical capabilities to organizational and business impact

  • Act as a bridge between customers and internal teams, shaping product direction and go-to-market strategy

You may be a fit if

  • You’ve previously been an engineering leader, principal architect, or platform leader in a complex organization

  • You’re comfortable operating at both 10,000 feet and diving deep technically when needed

  • You have strong opinions on how AI will transform software development and can articulate them clearly

  • You have executive presence and can build credibility quickly with CTOs and senior stakeholders

  • You’ve led or been involved in large-scale technology rollouts or transformations

  • You thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and prefer influence over ownership
