Our mission is to automate coding. The first step in our journey is to build the best tool for professional programmers, using a combination of inventive research, design, and engineering. Our organization is very flat, and our team is small and talent dense. We particularly like people who are truth-seeking, passionate, and creative. We enjoy spirited debate, crazy ideas, and shipping code.

About the role

We’re looking for a GVP of Strategy & Business Development for Public Sector to define and drive Cursor’s long-term approach to government markets. This leader will sit at the intersection of go-to-market, product, and partnerships—identifying where we should play, how we win, and who we partner with to accelerate adoption.

You’ll work on the highest-leverage problems in the public sector business: shaping market entry strategy, standing up key partnerships (e.g., system integrators, primes, and cloud providers), and driving strategic deals that unlock entire segments. This role is both highly analytical and deeply external-facing, requiring strong judgment, creativity, and the ability to execute.

This is a zero-to-one role with significant scope, ideal for someone who wants to build a durable public sector business around a category-defining product.

We’re an in-person company with offices in San Francisco and New York, and we value tight collaboration across teams.

What you’ll do

  • Define Cursor’s public sector strategy, including market segmentation, prioritization, and entry points across federal, state, and local

  • Identify and execute high-impact business development opportunities, including strategic deals and non-traditional partnerships

  • Build and manage relationships with key ecosystem players (system integrators, primes, resellers, cloud providers)

  • Structure and negotiate complex partnership agreements that accelerate distribution and adoption

  • Work closely with sales to support strategic accounts and unblock high-value opportunities

  • Partner with product and engineering to inform roadmap decisions based on public sector needs (e.g., compliance, deployment models, security)

  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory dynamics to inform long-term strategy

  • Help stand up new GTM motions, pilots, and programs to test and scale new approaches

You may be a fit if

  • You have deep experience in strategy, business development, or partnerships within the public sector ecosystem

  • Strong understanding of government markets, including how agencies buy and how partners influence procurement

  • Experience working with system integrators, primes, or cloud providers in a GTM or partnership capacity

  • Proven ability to structure and close complex, multi-party deals

  • Highly strategic thinker who can also execute and drive outcomes

  • Comfortable operating in early-stage, ambiguous environments with broad ownership

  • Strong cross-functional instincts and ability to influence across sales, product, and leadership

  • Interest in AI, developer tools, or technical products is a strong plus
