Change a Bot's name, picture, and what it does
Each Bot has its own name, picture, and label. Only the Bot's owner can change these. To change what a Bot works on, tell it in chat.
How do I rename a Bot?
On desktop, right-click the Bot in the sidebar and choose Rename Bot. You can also double-click the Bot's name in the sidebar. Type the new name and press Enter. If the sidebar is collapsed to icons, expand it first.
You can also click the Bot's name at the top of the chat to open its details, then click the name to edit it. The label under the name works the same way. It shows Add a label when the Bot doesn't have one.
On the phone, tap the Bot's name at the top of the chat to open its profile. Then tap Edit name. The phone calls the label Title (optional).
How do I change a Bot's picture?
On desktop:
- Open the chat with the Bot.
- Click the Bot's name at the top of the chat to open its details.
- Click the Bot's picture.
- Choose a tab:
- Bot changes the look of the Bot's character.
- Generate makes a picture from a short description. Describe the picture, choose Generate, then choose Set avatar.
- Upload uses your own image. Drag in an image or choose Browse files, adjust it, then choose Set avatar. The image must be smaller than 25 MB.
On the phone, open the Bot's profile and tap its picture. Choose Select from Gallery, Generate, or Remove Photo.
How do I change what a Bot does?
Tell the Bot in chat. For a lasting rule, ask it to remember. For example: "From now on, ask before sending any email." The Bot keeps lasting rules in its memory. Put one-time requests in a normal message.
A Team Bot you own still has a description. Edit it in the Bot's details, under About.

Where did Bot settings go?
The Bot's details no longer have a Bot settings page, and personal Bots no longer have a description. To change the picture, name, or label, click the Bot's name at the top of the chat to open its details. Click the picture or the name to edit it. To change what the Bot does, tell it in chat.
The sidebar right-click menu still has Rename Bot.
Why can't I rename or edit a Bot?
Only the Bot's owner can change its name, picture, and label. Rename Bot does not appear for a Bot you don't own.
