Create images and videos

Your Grok Bot can create pictures and short video clips when you ask. It can work from a description or from images you share in the chat. What it makes arrives in the chat, and you can find it again in the Bot's Library.

How do I ask for an image?

Tell your Bot what you want in the chat. Describe the subject, style, and mood in your own words. Your Bot creates an image only when you ask for one.

To build on pictures you already have, share them in the chat and say how to use them. Your Bot uses them as references for the new image.

Images can be square, wide, or tall: 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9, or 9:16.

Image creation isn't used for charts, plots, or tables. For those, ask for a page.

How do I ask for a video?

Ask for a video, an animation, or a clip. Your Bot can make one:

  • From a description of the scene.
  • From an image you share. The image becomes the first frame.
  • From two images you share, one for the start and one for the end. Use the same image for both to make a loop.
  • From up to 14 reference images that show how people, objects, clothing, or settings should look.

You can also share up to 4 images that must appear at set moments inside the clip.

Videos look filmed. They suit a live scene, a still photo brought to life, or a character from your reference images. They aren't made for motion graphics, title cards, slideshows, product or app demos, charts, or anything that needs exact text, timing, or brand assets.

Creating a video can take a few minutes.

What lengths and sizes can a video be?

  • Clips run 1 to 15 seconds. The default is 6 seconds.
  • Clips are 480p unless you ask for 720p.
  • Aspect ratios are 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, and 2:3. A clip made from your image keeps that image's shape unless you ask for another.
  • Images you share for a video must be JPEG, PNG, or WebP. All the images for one clip can add up to about 35 MB.
  • Your Bot saves each clip as an MP4 file.

Where do I find what my Bot made?

Your Bot sends each image and video to the chat. Images it creates still load there while its computer is asleep.

On desktop, click the Bot's name at the top of the chat to open its details, then open the Library tab. Images and videos your Bot sent are listed there, newest first. Images you uploaded yourself aren't included. Click a row to open it full screen.

On the phone, tap the Bot's name at the top of the chat to open its profile, then tap Library. Tap an image or video to open it.

How do I view, save, or copy on desktop?

Click an image or video in the chat to open it full screen. In the full-screen viewer:

  • Click an image to zoom in.
  • Use the left and right arrow keys to move between items when there's more than one.
  • Click the download button at the top to save the item.
  • Close the viewer with Escape, the close button, or a click outside the image.

The video player has play and pause, a seek bar, and a speed menu with 2×, 1.5×, 1×, and 0.5×.

You can also right-click. On an image, choose Copy image or Save image…. On a video, choose Save video….

To act on the whole message, hover over it and click the three dots. Choose Download, or Download all when the message has several items. For an image, you can also choose Copy.

How do I save or share on the phone?

  • Tap an image to open it full screen. Open the viewer's menu for Forward, Share, and Save.
  • Touch and hold an image in the chat for Copy Image and Save to Photos.
  • Tap a video to play it in the chat. Touch and hold it for Save to Photos.

Can a task my Bot hands off create images and videos?

Yes. When your Bot hands work to a task, that task can create images and videos too. Your Bot then sends them to the chat.

Why didn't my Bot create what I asked for?

  • To show you what a real person, place, or product looks like, your Bot finds a real image instead of creating one.
  • Some requests are blocked by content rules, and your Bot tells you when that happens. Naming trademarked characters, brands, or real people often causes a block. Describe the subject in your own words and try again.
  • If image creation is busy, your Bot may ask you to try again in a moment.
  • If your Bot says image or video generation isn't available for your account, creation is turned off for you. On a team, an admin's model settings or the team's privacy settings can cause this. Ask your admin.
